European states launch joint long-range one-way attack drone program

On February 12, the defense ministers of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, and Sweden signed a letter of intent to jointly develop a low-cost, long-range loitering munition with a range exceeding 500 kilometers (311 miles).

The system will be developed under the European Long-range Strike Approach (ELSA) initiative – initially signed in 2024 – and is designed to support deep precision strikes against high-value targets. These include enemy air defense systems and logistics infrastructure.
