India’s Expendable Turbojet Engine: A Loitering Munition Leap

On July 22, Hyderabad-based Azad Engineering delivered India’s first indigenous expendable turbojet engine to the DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE). Rated in the 350kg thrust class, the single-spool design pairs a four-stage axial compressor with an uncooled single-stage turbine and a fixed nozzle, an architecture built deliberately for low cost, compactness, and single-use reliability. The Ministry of Defence named no platform, but Indian reporting points to anti-ship missiles, UAVs, and loitering munitions.
