Earlier this month, the European Defence Agency (EDA) published their 2024 Annual Report detailing last year’s initiatives. With over 36 Capability Development projects in 2024, totaling over €186 million, the EDA prioritized the development and procurement of loitering munitions for its member states.

Moving from ‘“Ideas to Action,’” the EDA has committed to the capability development of loitering munitions. This includes the aggregation of demand toward joint procurement in the short term, while also preparing the future EU loitering munitions Preparation will involve the harmonization of requirements, development, operational experimentations, education and training, alongside the related legal and humanitarian challenges.
