Secretary of War Hegseth launches Project Agincourt to accelerate autonomous warfare transformation

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has announced the creation of Project Agincourt, a new initiative designed to accelerate the development, acquisition, and operational integration of autonomous systems across the Joint Force. The program was unveiled during his State of the Force address alongside plans to establish a new four-star combatant command focused exclusively on autonomous warfare.

Project Agincourt represents the next phase of the Pentagon’s broader push to institutionalise drone warfare, artificial intelligence-enabled targeting, and autonomous systems as core elements of future military operations. The initiative will build upon the Department’s existing Drone Dominance programme and serve as a transitional framework leading to the creation of the newly announced Autonomous Warfare Command (AutoWarCom).
